Sap Software

SAP software is the foundation of many modern enterprises. Over the years, valuable new features and functionality have been added to these enterprise applications in regular intervals. But as the software has become more mature and feature-rich, the value received from upgrades has diminished.

Security Support

Security consultant in any SAP product implementation (not just GRC) is wide enough and it's hard for anyone to sum up on a single forum post. Still I can give you some pointers. Security consultants come from different backgrounds, some from networking, database administration, infrastructure and even development like me. They contribute enormously to any product implementation from scratch (landscape design) to go-live (and continuous maintenance) so they are active on every phase of the implementation. Following are some of the activities they may perform (or participate) -System Landscape Design (work closely with BASIS and DBAs)

Database Maintanance

Technically there are no problems to backing up SAP databases online. This means that end users or nightly batch jobs can continue to use SAP applications without problems. SQL Server Backup consumes few CPU resources. However, SQL Server Backup does require I/O bandwidth because SQL Server will try to read every used extent to the backup device. Everything that is required for SAP (business data, metadata and ABAP applications etc) is included in one database named “”. Sometimes the time needed to take a full backup (generally a few hours) might become a problem, especially in SQL Server 2000 where no transaction log backups can be made while an Online Database Backup was performed. SQL Server 2005 does not have this issue.Technically there are no problems to backing up SAP databases online. Security

Authorizations are the key building blocks of SAP security. Authorization is the process of assigning values to fields present in authorization objects. In SAP, access to all system functionality is achieved through a complex array of authorizations. Sometimes users find that they lack the necessary authorizations to perform a certain function in the system, in which case the message: "You are not authorized..." is displayed at the bottom of the screen. An authorization process may ask for second associated authorization process which in turn asks for third and so on. For example, the task of paying a vendor invoice may require 10 different authorizations

Auditing Information System

Auditing Information System (AIS) SAP Audit Information System (AIS) serves as a centralized repository for reports, queries, and views of interest to auditors. It is designed to address the overall system configuration as well as SAP business processes and their related control features, providing audit and security practitioners with the critical information they need to conduct effective reviews of their SAP systems.
